Kids for Kids Charity Initiative of VancouverMaking change around the world
This is the official web page for the Kids for Kids Charity Initiative of Vancouver. Determined to make a change in our community and around the world, this group of dedicated individuals is determined to help children play sports, participate in extra curricular activities in school, improve their health standards and most importantly to help them achieve their life goals.
Our first initiative was to support war affected children in Sri Lanka. About 3 years ago, St. John’s College (a school in Sri Lanka), made the decision to adopt more than 500 orphan children. Therefore, the school had to rely on donations to support these kids. The school is now struggling to provide these kids with necessary supplies such as shoes for them to participate in the school activities and sports. In order to raise money for these children, we organized our first annual fundraising event, in the form of a ticketed show. This show featured a variety of musical and dance performances from both Western and Eastern cultures and was a big success! From this event alone, we raised $8500!

The collected money was used for the following two purposes::
• Towards the expenses related to participation in sports and in extra curricular activities by the children. This may include but is not limited to the purchase of shoes, sport uniforms, sport equipment to play individual sports, individual travel expenses required for the internally displaced kids to participate in any tournaments or games, and also to cover any other expenses related to extra curricular activities at the school.
• To provide a scholarship to one or two graduating kids every year that exceed in studies and extra curricular activities, under the name “Vancouver Kids for Kids Scholarship”. This scholarship for the graduating student(s) will be used towards their higher education.
Our second initiative was to support children in our local community – specifically British Columbia’s foster children.
Unfortunately, there are close to 16,000 children who do not live with their biological parents in BC alone. Of these children in foster care, they will move an average of 7 times in their childhood; meaning 7 different families, 7 different homes, and 7 different schools. Also, 70% of BC's homeless come from the foster care system, which shows how much foster children need our help, especially with transitioning into adulthood.
We hosted another fundraiser show, with all proceeds going towards SOS Children's Village BC (sosbc.org) - an establishment that houses and cares for our foster children in a permanent home setting. SOSBC is the only children’s village in Canada, and ensures that their foster children do not move from house to house. They also provide a transition program to help their children adjust to adulthood, and prepare them for a successful future. From this event, we raised $6500!
